Somali Government Concerned About Increasing Restrictions On Travelers To Kenya

Somalia government has expressed its concern about growing restrictions targeting its citizens travelling to neighbouring Kenya. Nairobi bound flight from Mogadishu was on Monday halted in Wajir for hours, before it was allowed to continue its journey to Kenyan capital the following day.

”Somalia’s Transport and Aviation Ministry expresses its concern about the delay of passengers in Wajir International Airport.” Minister Mohamed Omar said in a statement on Tuesday on his social media page. Kenyan immigration officials at the airport in Wajir informed the African airlines’ crew transiting over 100 passengers, that their journey was cut short due to stop of the airport operations.

According to sources, security check at the airport re-imposed by the Nairobi has consumed a lot of time and is the main reason that led to the connection to Jomo Kenyatta Airport. On his part, Somalia’s Transport and Aviation Minister, Mohamed Omar said officials at Aden Abdulle Airport in Mogadishu are investigating the reason, as to why the plane didn’t take off early from Mogadishu.
