Somali Lower House of Parliament Speaker, Ambassador Mohamed Mursal Sheikh, has named a committee of inquiry to investigate killings in Galkacyo. The 13 members from the House will embark on a journey to the southern city to establish the findings surrounding the murder of nine people in the city last week. Ambassador Mursal requested the related Federal and regional institutions to facilitate the needs of the special House committee to perform their new task.
Gunmen have shot dead nine people in Galkacyo on Friday in what is seen as“revenge” ethnic attack. The house extensively debated the case on Saturday during their session. Galmudug Regional authorities said suspects were arrested in connection to the manslaughter and they will be arraigned in court for charges. The federal government of Somalia has called upon the state administration official in Galmudug to speed the process.
