Al-Shabaab claims number of US soldiers killed ‘in attack’

Unidentified gunmen have shot and killed a US military officer in the northern Kenyan town of Manda Bay in the northern Kenyan town of Lamu, witnesses said on Saturday.

In a statement issued in English and Arabic by Al-Shabaab recently broadcast on their media, they said the attack was a loss of life and property to the soldiers stationed at the base.

Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack that killed 17 American soldiers and nine other Kenyan military (KDF) aliases.

They also said they destroyed seven fighter jets and more than five military vehicles.

Al-Shabaab said many parts of Simba’s base were set ablaze, and that it took more than 10 hours for the troops at the base to finish the attack, according to the statement.

No one could independently verify Al-Shabaab’s claims. The Kenyan government says the attack did not cause any casualties, and killed all the attackers.
