Diaz-Canel Talks With Kenyan, Somali Leaders about Cuban Doctors

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has talked with his counterparts from Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, and Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, about the two Cuban doctors believably kidnapped by members of the Al-Shabaab militia group a few days ago.

In a post on Twitter on Thursday, the Cuban Head of State said he engaged the Kenyan and Somali leaders in a telephone conversation as part of his government’s efforts aimed at achieving the release of doctors Assel Herrera and Landy Rodriguez.

President Diaz Canel recently pointed out on the same social media that Cuba was working tirelessly for the safe return of the two medical officers kidnapped in Kenya on April 12. The suspected Al-Shabaab abductors are believed to have crossed over to Somalia with the Cuban doctors. Cuban authorities have expressed their gratitude for the international solidarity with Herrera and Rodriguez and their families.
