Villa Somalia said the official opening of the embassy, in the presence of President Guelleh, reflected on the level of distinguished “brotherly and cordial ties” between the two countries. In his speech, the Djibouti leader reaffirmed his country’s commitment towards strengthening diplomatic relations with Somalia and contributing to the International and regional combined efforts to stabilize the Horn of Africa nation.

Speaking at the save event, Farmaajo expressed his gratitude to the Djiboutian counterpart for his “courageous” visit to Somalia and his country’s role in the African Union (AU) mission in fighting the Al-Shabaab extremist group. Guelleh’s visit comes days after a car bomb blast, killed at least five people and wounded dozens at a security checkpoint near the entrance of the Presidential palace. Members of the al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab militant group, claimed responsibility for the attack.
