EISA organized civic education training for the disability people

 

On 28-20 December 2020 EISA organized civic education training for the disability people  in Mogadishu participated 50 persons. The workshop was training the disability people voter education and all requirements from the voters.

The participants of the workshop where diverse groups from the disability people the deaf, blind and the physical challenged who has learned more about the civic education in general and particularly the voter education for the disability people in the next elections in Somalia 2021.

PWDs persons with disabilities are more than 15% in the society where they have no role in the policy and decision making, as well as the elections process in the country. The workshop injected the participants’ information and resources explaining the role and rights for the disability people in the election in Somalia and in the world.

Somalia joined the CRPD members’ stated 2019 after ratifications of the CRPD which enforce the role of the PWDs persons with disability social and political in the member countries of the convention.  The election in Somalia 2021 should be inclusive for all where the persons with disabilities should be integrated the voters and the candidates for the parliamentary and presidential election in Somalia

Some members the participants expressed their interest and ambition to participate the election for the parliamentary for the 275 house of the people and 54 upper house parliament in Somalia.  The problems are the clans will not select PWDs as candidate for  their MP,  the payment fee for candidate which is high  Upper House candidate fee is 20,000 USD and house people candidate is 10,000 USAD

Most participants of the workshop acknowledge the useful source for them the civic education in general and particularly the voter education with very detailed ToR Somali language version hand-out books with them.
