Trainings/ Sessions and discussions on PSEA (Protection Against Sexual Exploitation & Abuse) are considered sensitive in any society let alone a conservative society like mine (Somaliland/Somalia ) the trainer has to develop ways of making participants to engage heavily in the sessions by exchanging their experiences, believes and values (Trust Me it is Hard)
As a Muslim Lady, a Aid Worker and a Human-being, I fundamentally believe that No ONE has the right to Abuse, Harass and exploitate another human-being by any means.
I had the privilege to do PSEA trainings for the last three years to NGO Partners across Somaliland/ Somalia regions and in Kenya, and in each training I always gain a participant who shares with me an incident that either personally happened to him/her or to their loved ones when they where young.
The reason behind this post is that I was so inspired and humbled by a wonderful middle aged-lady who warmly came to me after I was done with my session and With a big smile on her face said “ Huda ,Thank you for this session, it is not the same when a lady talks about PSEA compared to a Man” and when I asked her “How so?” she said “We get each other ” she looked down and looked into my eyes and continued “ You saw all the young ladies that were in the session” I nodded yes “ they were delighted when they learned about the types of PSEA and to the fact that a lady is presenting the topic”
I truly can’t put in words how this feedback made me feel, I’m thankful to Allah who blessed me to be a benefit to somebody else even if its small.
