Somalia Takes Over As The Chair Of The 151st Arab League Ministerial Council

Somalia has taken over as the chairmanship of the 151st of the Arab League Ministerial Council during a meeting in in the Egyptian capital of Cairo. Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister, Ahmed Issa Awad, will be boss of the council for the next six months.

The Somali minister chaired the first session of the meeting of ministers in Cairo shortly after he assumed leadership of the council in the presence of the Arab League Secretary General, Ahmed Abu Al Key. The meeting discussed the agenda of the upcoming Arab League summit in Tunisia later this month.

The 151st session of Arab League Council of Foreign Affairs Ministers, which was chaired by Somalia, also discussed security, economic cooperation, and the political affairs among the league member states. The Somali minister later hosted a luncheon to all ministers and diplomats in the Arab league present as a diplomatic gesture of appreciation.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held its first historic meeting in Mogadishu in October last year on Somali contact group ministerial meeting. The country is also expected to host another conference on counter-terrorism under auspices of the OIC on April 29 and 30th.
