Chinese Ambassaador to Somalia, Wei, who speaks Somali language visits Hargeisa: Somaliland
The Chinese ambassador to Somalia based in Mogadishu, Wei Hongtian, arrived in Hargeisa yesterday to inspect previous projects that the People’s Republic of China implemented in Somaliland prior to the 1988 war.
Mr. Wei Hongtian was warmly welcomed by the State minister for foreign affairs, deputy minister for foreign affairs and the minister in charge of livestock.
The Chinese govt implemented the building of the oldest bridge in Hargeisa which links the north part of the capital to its south part of the city.
It also made possible for the current water supply system which is operating today where majority of Hargeisa residents are enthusiastic to have potable water.
Mr. Wei, speaking at a venue where he was cordially welcomed said that he was happy to visit Hargeisa.
He said that he would stay for couple of days. In addition, he told that he will embark on an inspection tour to Geedeeble, the site of wells that provide potable water to hundreds of Hargeisa residents.
He announced that he will pay visit to Bebera port as well. Above all, he will further tour to Hargeisa and Berbera centers where the Chinese govt carried out development projects.
He hailed the peace, stability and progress that Somaliland govt and its people achieved over the past 20 years. He asserted that he will meet with Chinese community in Somaliland as well.
Former Somaliland president, the late Mohamed Haji Ibrahim Egal who lobbied for the Chinese to have a permanent seat in the Security Council in lieu of Taiwain which used to occupy the seat.
The late Egal was the Prime Minister of Somalia when he was lobbying for the Chinese people.
In return, China decided to build the Hargeisa main bridge and provided the only water pipeline system in Hargeisa for the campaign that Egal did for the Chinese people.
