President Farmaajo Visits Somali Military Officials Training In Uganda

Somali President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, has paid a visit to officers of the Somali National Army training at the Kambamba Military Academy in central Uganda. More than 100 officers are undergoing training provided by the Ugandan People Defense Forces (UPDF) as part of the capacity building efforts of Somalia’s armed forces.

The Somali officers, who are set to conclude their training mid this year, thanked the President for the rare visit on Tuesday. The Somali head of state said he was looking forward to the return of the officers, to take part in the joint operation against the Al-Shabaab armed militia group.

The President reiterated his government’s commitment to security under his leadership. President Farmaajo is scheduled to deliver his closing speech at the ongoing conference on Africa’s peace, integration and economic development in Kampala, on Wednesday.

President Mohamed Farmaajo is expected to deliver a keynote address today at the ongoing ‘Africa Now’ conference in Kampala, Uganda. According to the schedule of the two-day conference which concludes today (Wednesday), President Farmaajo, who is among five heads of states in attendance, will address the conference this afternoon.

Running on the theme, “Towards a secure, Integrated and growing Africa”, the conference’s key objective is to harness the energy of the African youth in forging a secure, integrated and growing Africa. Over 1,000 delegates delegates from at least 20 African countries, are attending the event. Somalia is one of the countries in Africa with the largest youth population accounting for close to 80 percent of the country’s population. However, according to the UN, up to 67 percent of these youth do not have access to gainful employment.
