The 16 days gbv event is held in Mogadish
On Thursday 07 December 2023 event is held in Mogadishu to magnify the gender based violence against the women and girls in Somalia. The event is organized by the group of female disability rights protection activists. HINDWO Hidig Disability Women Organization and BOWDO Banadir disability women organization.
The event is held in the SDN office jointly by two Members organizations of SDN Somali Disability Network that work the gender disability inclusion protection. The 16 days GBV event is participated by several organizations mostly from the DPOs the disabled people organizations. The people participated in the event were 20 persons most of the females from the disability people and the non-disability people.
The participants in the event discussed the objectives of the event which is human right protection. Particularly the for the women and young girls with disabilities.. Raise advocacy and awareness for the BVG against the FWDs females with disabilities in Somalia. The empowerment of the gender disability. Recoding the human rights violations, supporting accesses protection, care and legal aid service.
The participants has made presentations and debates of the theme of the year “Accelerating actions to end gender-based violence & femicide: leaving no one behind. That stand the animations of all kinds of violations, violence, abuses and discriminations against the women and girls in the world. And leaf no one behind. That mean inclusion the disability and marginalized groups who are victims of the GBV in the work and in Somalia.
The member’s participants in the event exchanged ideas that presents the overall gender disability protection and empowerment in Somalia. And the overall violations that exist around in the country. Where in some cases females with disabilities lose support and protection from the organized crimes. Where women and young girls with disabilities are vulnerable to the crimes.
Some of the participants raised cases and arguments that majority of the females with disabilities the women and young girls. Suffer weakness and lack of skills to mobilize prevention for the GBV and protection in the action of the GBV. Great number of the disability females have low level education and skills that could help them identify protection and privation of the GBV from themselves.

In the public for the private sectors the business. The women and girls suffer disaffirmation in the accessibility, communication and cooperation in the market. When she tries to buy or sale some thing some people look them strange and discrimination. In some case people will treat you as beggars seeking the charity. Therefore, I recommend women should be empowered human rights protections and economic support.
Mss.Fartum Mohamed Elmi the sectary general of the SDN network. Said as deaf persons we feel segregated from the society. A discriminations that starts in the families at homes the parents and siblings humiliate you as someone without high values and good moral. Lucky I thank my parent who supported me learn education and gain my first degree. In the social people humility female deaf persons not access marriage and dating. The give you despise reaction. In the employment deaf people are discriminated therefore. I recommend Somalia should organize national disability inclusion protection policy and laws.
Mr. Abdullahi Hassan Hussein member of the SDN and the chairperson of the Somali disability inclusion forum the (disability inclusion cluster) said a great session for the women and girls disability rights protection. We have talked cases and crimes that most of them not received the right reaction and respond from the social the families and the people. From the CSOs, from the DPOs and from policy makers. We acknowledge women ad rights with disabilities are more vulnerable. We found that there limited disability inclusion protection in the country, weak human rights protection system. Lack legal aid service for the PWDs, limited participation in the donors support partnership for the DPOs and lack of implementation for the CRPDs in Somalia. And lack national disability act law that can grantee the protection of the all PWDs inclusion the women and girls with disabilities.
Mr. Osman Nur the chairperson of the Somalia national deaf association, he said we work the education for the deaf children. The young girls are more than deaf boys inn the society, they are subjected in the home, not access to schools. When they grow they suffer lack education and skills that lead here weakness unable to challenge life in the society. Deaf as sensory and disoriented in the environmental. When they suffer violations they have information about what do and when to seek support. Therefore we request support women and girls right protection through education, skills and employment.
Mr. Omer Abdi Omer the chairperson of Dayaha disability organization and the chairperson of the SDN assembly. Said we wok the humanitarian and protection for the disability people. We have cases that women disability suffer in the society. The social right mainly the marriage where some of they are divorced where they sustain disability, their husbands abandoned with children, we have some cases in our center. We work support them with charity support. We also work skills training them. We also request the cooperation with donors and government for the women and girls’ disability protection.
Mr. Abdullahi Hussein Osman the chairperson of the SDN thanked to the all participants in the 16 days GBV even held in the SDN office with cooperation of the HIDWO and BOWD members or the SDN organization that serve gender protection and employment. There is more problems as raised in the debates and cases presented. Of course some exist and some may be theory. There if we don’t have proof we may not seek loud. But we acknowledge the extent of the problems. I encourage the CSOs and the DPOs work hard in their areas of operation for the empowerment and protection of human rights. SDN can work and help you legal aid and access to first aid. Finally ii recommend to the human rights protection cluster, disability working groups, the donors and the government to insure the participation of the PWDs in their work and mantes. This can enhance the level of awareness and advocacy in the society. SDN has 15 organization members some are working education, human rights, humanitarian, development and employment.
