Turkish Ambassador to Somalia Mr. Mehmet Yilmaz, has paid an official visit to Hargeisa the capital of Somaliland. Mr Yilmaz was warmly welcomed by the President of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi, to his office. A press release from the President’s office stated that the two discussed the strengthening of the cooperation between Turkey and Somaliland and on ways of expanding Turkish-based development projects in the country.
The statement adds that President Muse Bihi also requested that the Turkish education scholarship be also granted to students in Somaliland. The meeting was also attended by Foreign Affairs and Health Development ministers. Somaliland regional state declared unilateral independence from the rest of Somalia in 1991 and is to date still seeking for international recognition.
