International Human Rights Day Commemoration Held In Mogadishu
Somali disability cluster organized IHRD event 2021 in Mogadishu. The event is participated PWDs, members of the DPOs, member from the Somali federal states disability and Banadir region. The participants of the event discussed the agenda mainly the human rights and the disability in Somalia.
The event was very interesting where it is one of the rare opportunities that manages to organize meeting and conference for the PWDs and DPOs including the federal state nearly 15 persons participated with five key speakers. the cluster organize PWDs and DPOs in the Banadir region. Such this event encourages member to have role in the social and policy in their society and areas.
The moderator opened the event with welcome note and overall introduction for the IHRD the 10 December and the 3 December international disability day. The participant get brief outline of the human rights and the disability right protection. As well as the different between the two days.
Mr. Abdullahi Hassan the moderator of the event said we are pleased to invite actors serving the protection and advocacy for the PWDs. Regarding the barrier around problems for the technology, time and cost of the internet finally we managed to do the work. We can brioche the gap and the problems if we work hard together and united as one team. No matter the distance between the team commitment is important.
Such these regional states meeting will enable us highlight the situation of the PWDs and PODs differently. The problems vary more and lasted long. With our little endeavour we managed shift form right less and stereotypes. Now there are some laws emplace in the country these came with every we made through the risk and venture of resources. Of course still there some other problems that need to be addressed soon.
We have report that National Disability Agency is in process that the president didn’t pass, the CRPD has not been employment in the country and national disability act draft in the hands of the ministry of the women and human rights three years. We know the election for 275 under way with tens thousands voters so far member from the PWDs has not been announced .
Ahmed From the Banadir region thanked all participated and expresses said I appreciation to have meeting I could measure the situation of the PWDs in Somalia. The members based in Banadir region has worked hard and managed to put pressure the government the cabinet and the legislation that led the establishment laws and national agency
Mr. Isaq From Jwohar Hirhsballe said, thanks all participants with their names and tiles. I see people from different areas of location working in one work ‘ the advocacy for the PWDs rights ‘ . in Hirshabelle state the PWDs suffered many problems the drought, floods, the locust and the armed conflict which made damages and risk the lives of the thousands PWDs in the regions.
The international community and humanitarian aid work on the ground is visible where they have made respond the drought, and floods with humanitarian aid support. Most of these work is planned and chordate discriminative that prevented access and participation the PWDs and DPOs based in the regions. The condition team has made violations of the international humanitarian aid development and human rights protection. The
Mr. Axmed From Dhuromareb Town Galmudug FMS thanked all participated and said we all have common in discrimination from the social and policy. We are based in Dhusom-mareb. Where we have suffered the disaster took place the regions. Mainly the droughts, locust, armed confilcits and covdi19 which all have painful legacy to the members from the PWDs. There some people who dead for the all above mentioned disasters. Unfortunately there has not been respond from the donors and the government. Luckly small charity from local people supported very little people.
The federal state did not made inclusive for all plan that give care and development the PWDs, the income of the state is very little not some time enough the government expense. We are left alone where don’t have open ears hearing or eye looking our plight. The international community spend huge money in the regions. Supported tens thousands people. Put left alone the PWDs
Abdisalan from Kismanyo Juboland thanked all participants and greeted with their names and role in the meeting. Said I am very much glad to participate such this meeting. There huge problems the PWDs I nthe Juboland federal state. The disaster impacted. The election process is discuramtnive where member from disability did not get role and ratio for the voters and candidate for 275 MP seats with 27,000 voters. The PWDs are very much intrested the poltica lparticaption and the national employment the Juboland FMS.
There are other social problems widely touching the PWDs and their families. Humanitarian aid in the region has not been inclusive. Development program has been discriminative. So far we did not see any program or project supporting the PWDs. JDA Jubolad Disability Association work on the ground with other DPOs and Actives based the regions. JDA work Gedo region area where there more problems than other region. The disability people are more vulnerable to the crises
Mr. Abdirashid from Baidoa Southwest FMS thanked all people in the event, he said we want to work with all activist for the PWDs and the DPOs. We are the role models and the leadership of the DPOs in the area. We want participate the education and the development. He left the meeting for network problems
The finding drafted the meeting
1. Commonly the federal state and Banadir region has social exclusion, humanitarian aid the development for the PWDs
2. Lack of participation in the decision making table and the partnership implementation with donors the humanitarian aid and development
3. The National Disability Agency is not operational for the complaint from the PWDs the selection process for committee and the lacks presidential degree or signature as constitutional agency
4. CRPD the convention nights person with disabilities s is ratified put, lack implementation 3 years. From the international community and the government.
5. National disability act is draft process since 2019 and lacked in the ministry of the women and human rights that did not get consultation with PWDs and DPOs and prevented to send the 10 parliament
