PRESS RELEASE Precision airstrike eliminated al-Shabaab leader associated with Manda Bay attack

PRESS RELEASE
Precision airstrike eliminated al-Shabaab leader associated with Manda Bay attack
that killed American Soldiers fighting al-Shabaab
Post-strike assessments confirmed that one of the two terrorists killed in the Feb.
22 precision airstrikes near Saacow, Somalia was an individual associated with the
attack on Manda Bay in Kenya.
He is known to have been in charge of planning and directing terrorist operations
on the Kenya border region, including the recent attack on Manda Bay.
The second terrorist, his wife, was a witting and active member of al-Shabaab
responsible for facilitating a wide range of terrorist activities. This strike
demonstrates that regardless of gender, al-Shabaab terrorists responsible for
indiscriminate attacks against the innocent Somali population, will be defeated.
The Federal Government of Somalia, U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), and
AMISOM continue to take action to prevent this malicious terrorist group from
planning and conducting attacks, especially on innocent men, women, and
children in Somalia.
Tangible progress in Somalia has been made but the progress is not irreversible.
The Somali National Army (SNA), Danab, and our partners have made gains in alShabaab strongholds in southern Somalia, holding territory and establishing
outposts.
