The council of Banadiri Traditional elders (Odayaasha Dhaqanka Banaadiriga) hereby call for the Prime
Minister of the federal government of Somalia H.E. Mohamed Hussein Roble to take critical action
against Omar Mohamed Abdulle aka Dhagey, who is deliberately intervening the internal affairs of the
Banadiri SIET and the Banadiri community in General.
Omar Dhegey is a nightmare to the Banadiri community because of his brutal actions against the Banadiri
community during the 2016-2017 election, a time he was leading the election implementation
Excellency Roble, Omar Dhegey is well known for his cruelty and hatred against the Banadiri
community, while he uses his relationship with the PM’s office as a leverage to abuse the Banadiri
community.
Speaking at a press conference in Mogadishu, the traditional elders pointed their fingers at Dhegey, who
decided in 2016 to block majority Banadiri clans from competing for the Banadiri seats in Parliament.
While Dhegey was the head of the FIET in 2016, he picked only few clans to be the sole contenders for
the seats of the Parliament that represent the Banadiri community, and this time, while the elders are fully
backing the SIET of Banadiri, Dhegey is threatening the committee members to follow his footsteps of
2016, which is a total violation of the human rights of the Banadiri communities.
Dhegey is pressuring the SIET committee to mandate the 5 seats for 5 designated clans that Dhegey
supports. Individuals supported by Dhegey threated the committee in public that they will harm them.
Dhegey’s leadership of the 2016 elections was a nightmare to us, now he wants to abuse our community
again, we will never accept that. We support the SIET committee, they are on right track, they are
istening to us, they want to make justice for all Banadiri communities, but Dhegey intention to violate
Banadiri community in 2021, is unacceptable.
We call the president to intervene, and the PM to act against Dhegey, otherwise the Banadiri community
will fight against Dhegey’s tyranny publicly.
We also call the international community and human rights organizations to observe the actions of the
individuals like Dhegey, who harass the committee for individual gains.
Banadiri community is already a victim of Dhegey’s leadership of the 2016-2017 elections, and this time,
we can’t accept him to repeat the same actions, while he has no mandate to do so.
Dhegey wants to deprive the rights of majority Banadiri clans, while he wants to push the Banadiri seats
in the parliament to be designated for certain clans, and he is pushing some individuals from the few clans
he wants to give the full right to be the only competitors for the seats.
Banadiri traditional elders are waiting the PM to take action against Dhegey and support the Banadiri
SIET to implement their mandate according to the rights of their communities.
