The Somali Federal Police Force is today celebrating its 75th anniversary since inception on 20th December 1943. The force has been busy 0ver the last few days taking drills on staging a parade to mark a colourful ceremony today, 20th December 2018.
The police band, Heegan, is also expected to entertain guests with patriotic songs during the event. The Somali Federal Police Force, which was once one of the well organized and strongest on the African continent before the breakout of the civil war in the 1990s, was established in 1943 by the colonial master, Italy. The force served as one of the principal organs of the Somali Armed Forces.
The police force, which is the main civil law enforcement agency in the country, has not been operating for many years between the fall of the central government and the establishment of the transitional government. The capital city of Mogadishu, which used to be regarded one of the most dangerous locations in the world when the central government collapsed in 1991, is now safe and secure apart from a few incidents which rarely occur.
