Somalia’s health ministry on Thursday confirmed 55 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of infections to 928.
Fowziya Abikar, Minister for health, said the latest cases are from the samples which were tested in the last 24 hours.
The patients were between eight and 73 years old, whereas 37 were male and 18 female
“This number is growing as you can see and we must stop it, the age of the patients is as follows, patients below 20 are 7%, 50% are between 20-390years of age, 31% are between 40-59 years of age, 12% are above 60 ” Abikar told journalists in Mogadishu during a daily media briefing.
Abikar said that nineteen people have been discharged from hospitals since the virus was confirmed in the country.
She however said that five patients died during the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 44.
Somalia has so far banned large gatherings to ensure social distancing, closed learning institutions, and imposed a night curfew to contain the spread of COVID-19.
