Somali And Qatari Leaders Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Cooperatio

The President of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, and the Emir of the Qatar state, Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, have held discussions on avenues of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries among other issues of mutual interest to Somalia and Qatar.

During the talks in Doha on Wednesday, the two leaders agreed to boost the ongoing ambitious development projects funded by Qatar in Somalia, as well the general development of the Somali economy and movement of goods and people between the two members of the Arab league nations. The meeting also focused on the role of Qatar in supporting social service development programs in the health and education sectors, while enhancing the defence pact to help the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) in building the capacity of its armed forces.

Sheikh Tamim gave an assurance of his government’s commitment in investing in the Horn of Africa nation, particularly in the abundant fishing, farming and livestock sector, with the aim of creating employment opportunities for young people in Somalia.
